The beach of
Metalia stretches golden and "seducing" under the galleries erected by the German company
Speidel in 1903. in order
to quarry the iron deposits of the island. The
quarries facilities stand still while the accumulated red and black solidified
iron dust creates a
weird scenery. The "Little Palace" or
Palataki as
locals call i is an impressive
edifice that
dominates the pine-clad hill and functioned as seat of the
company. On the right of the elevation lies the
little harbour wi
th the mole and the
caiques. Its inlet
surrounds a small beach, while its edge is
protected bu lower hill. From
Palataki a shortcut passes trough lush vegetation and after crossing the little wooden bridge leads to
Limenaria.
